Wouldn't it be nice if someone could guarantee you a lottery win?
Well, I guarantee you will win Lotto 6/49! But first you will have to
buy 14 million tickets.
All
joking aside, have you ever asked yourself how many lottery tickets you
have to buy to guarantee a lotto jackpot win? It's actually quite easy.
What ever the odds are, that's how many tickets you have to buy to be
guaranteed to win. Actually, it's not enough to just buy that many
tickets; all of the number combination's need to be unique as well.
I used lotto 6/49 in the example above. The odds of winning Lotto 6/49 are approximately 1-in-14-million. So, there are 14 million different combination's of numbers that could be drawn in any given draw. That means you have to buy 14 million tickets to be a guaranteed jackpot winner. But, of course, buying 14 million tickets is not feasible. Tickets cost $2, so you would have to spend $28 million to buy that many combination's. Even if you could spend that much money, you wouldn't even be able to print that many tickets, even if the lottery machine was printing them 24 hours per day.
So, you really cannot guarantee a lottery win. It would cost too much money to do so and the machine wouldn't be able to print them fast enough. Oh well, just keep buying that one ticket every draw. Your odds will be 1-in-14-million. Maybe you will get lucky one day and win the jackpot, but it's not guaranteed. Sorry!
